Mixed Media

Time:  1-2 classes    |    Supplies:  Any media available in class

Utah Standards

Std 7–8.V.CR.5: Demonstrate persistence in developing skills with various materials, methods, and approaches in creating works of art or design.

Objectives

  • Students will create a work of art using multiple mediums

  • Students will learn how to combine and work with different mediums to create a final work of art.

Directions

  1. Sketch:  Have students sketch their ideas on a piece of paper until they have a composition they are pleased with

  2. Draw: Once students decide on their composition, they will enlarge it using a 11x17 paper.

  3. First Medium: Students will then start adding color to their drawing using their first medium choice

  4. Second and Third Medium:  Repeat the process by adding more colors with different mediums 

  5. Overlapping: It is okay to overlap mediums, the more variation the better. Don’t be afraid of experimenting with new ideas. Mixed media process of an opportunity to try new ideas and skills.

Tips

You can create cut outs and glue them to your project as well. There is no limit to what you can do.
