Lesson 3: 2 Points Perspective

 Art Foundations

2 Points Perspective

Period:  1-2 Classes |. Supplies:  Paper, Pencil, Eraser, Ruler, Sharpie for outlining

Utah Standards

  • Std. 7-8.V.CR.3: Develop criteria to guide making a work of art or design to meet an identified goal.

Students will be able to

  • Use their knowledge of lines and angles learned from 1 point perspective to create a drawing using 2 points perspective
  • Demonstrate understanding of 2 points perspective by creating drawing of 3-5 building with accurate angles

Directions

  • Horizon Line and Vanishing Point:  Students will draw a horizon line in the middle of paper and place 2 vanishing points, on each end of the line
  • Vertical Line:  Students will then draw a vertical line above, below or crossing the horizon line.
  • Orthogonal Lines:  Next students will draw lines from the top of the vertical line towards the vanishing points, at both ends of the vertical line (top and bottom). Repeat this step to both vanishing points.
  • More Vertical Lines: Draw 2 more vertical lines, one on each side of the first vertical line drawn. Make sure those new lines are touching the orthogonal lines.
  • Vanishing Point: Draw an orthogonal line from the top of the new vertical lines towards the vanishing point. The right vertical line will connect with the left vanishing point. The left vertical line will connect with the right vanishing point.
  • Erase: Erase the extra lines to see your composition.

Tips

  • Students can also watch the video I posted on Canvas under modules. That video will show them how to draw basic shapes from a 2 points perspective.   Video
